Samuel F. B. Morse
A visit to the Samuel F B Morse Museum in Poughkeepsie
Not only did Samuel F B Morse invent Morse Code in 1837, he patented it in 1840, as more than 600 other men tried to claim it as theirs, and he had to sue them.
He was first and foremost an artist, and was also big in politics. He was responsible for stringing many overland cables between cities, and also under-ocean cables between countries. No small feat in the early-to-mid 1800s.
